Main Story - Prologue

The view of Tokyo at night, spread out as if in the palm of one's hand, was mesmerizing.

Especially on such a dark, cold evening, with heavy raindrops falling from the sky and tapping dully against the windowpane. ‍

The woman mindlessly shifted her gaze from the landscape to her own distorted reflection: a pale face, bags under her reddened eyes—today had only made her look worse, perhaps even shaved a couple of years off her life. And she had already stayed late at the office, sorting through the affairs of the agency's talent.
Woman
Wow, I look terrible. After a day like that, it’s no surprise.
Another group has died out without ever reaching its full potential. Though, one has to wonder if it was ever really there to begin with...
Woman
And on top of that, management dumped everything on me.
Look, I know I’m the manager and the responsibility falls on me, but how was I supposed to know those little brats were sneaking out at night to mess around behind my back, knowing full well what the consequences could be!
Well done, you’ve fed some geezer for a couple of weeks with your drama. I really thought this group had finally come together and was getting along well. Turns out, they just bonded over hitting nightclubs and breaking every single rule in their contracts. It’s honestly staggering.
Woman
It seems I was the only one taking everything seriously…
I'm exhausted…
Her phone buzzed angrily in her pocket, and she reluctantly reached in to pull it out. The unpleasantly bright light hit her face, making her squint. The message on the screen felt like another nail in her coffin.
Director
Emi Futami, don't forget to pick up the unit merch from the warehouse before you head out today.
She let out another heavy sigh. There was nothing left to do but turn around and head toward the warehouse where the unsold idol merch was kept. She didn't want to deal with this today, especially after what had happened earlier, and this "task" felt like rubbing salt in the wound. Tucked away among endless rows of shelves, in just about the darkest, dustiest corner, was what she needed. Old boxes filled with albums, posters, and other merchandise left over from her past projects had already started to gather dust.
Emi
This place feels like a graveyard now…
Which I created with my own two hands.
There are more bad memories here than good ones. Though mostly, they’re just shameful. I’m not sure if that’s for me or for the former idols who were unlucky enough to debut in this dump.
As she moved one box after another, she gradually recalled each of the groups that no longer existed. There had been many good times, but plenty of bad ones too, which only made her sigh sadly and cough occasionally from the dust rising with the boxes.
Emi
Ugh, what a relic… A shame, really; they looked pretty good on the album cover. And they had some sweet fans, too.
Ah... those ones too, it's a shame they didn't last long.
...
Behind another pile of old junk, something looked painfully familiar. She pulled the box closer, and her eyes fell upon copies of her first group's albums, their color and luster long since faded.
Emi
...Ecliptic. Those four had such potential… Or so I thought when I selected them. They still look magnificent all together.
When Amy pulled out one of the albums, it creaked softly, opening for the first time. The only sound was the quiet turning of pages.
Emi
But everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.
Who could have known they would clash so badly.
A hand glides over the smooth pages, pausing briefly at each member of the group as if hoping to feel a touch in return.
Emi
But who am I kidding? I just completely failed as their producer.
If only I had one more chance…
If only…
As she continued to sift through the remnants of her past life, it felt as though, after an endless parade of failures, nothing could possibly make this day any worse. Well, except for the sheer volume of dust she had inhaled over the last hour and a half while digging through it all.

And just as she reached the final stretch, with only four boxes left to go, one of them contained the very thing she had simultaneously dreaded and given up hope of ever finding.
Emi
Oh my god, how old is this junk?
The disc, not even in its case but just sitting on the shelf and nearly tipped against the wall, was one of those featuring her own vocals, dating back to her own debut. After dusting it off, her fingers gently trace the cover.
Emi
Wow, I'm not even sure I want to listen to this again. Maybe it doesn't sound as bad as I thought?
Is there a CD player here… hmm, where could it be…
Maybe this is a sign that I shouldn't listen...?
And as if to spite the irony, the very thought made her instinctively start rummaging through the nearby drawers and boxes, searching for anything that might, in theory, be capable of playing the recording.
Emi
Oh, here we go. Something like that. Will it even work after all these years?
The old player that tumbled out of the box she’d accidentally knocked over felt like a direct sign from above. Getting the old thing running took some effort, though. And when the device finally let out a short beep to signal it was ready, she still couldn't quite believe it as she took the disc from the box and slid it into the player.
Emi
Listening to this song again is going to be physically painful. Well, whatever happens, happens.
As Emi put in the included earbuds and pressed play, she heard a familiar song, the lyrics already dancing on her tongue. But less than a minute later, a sudden, sharp jolt of electric pain shot through her body. Her head began to spin, her vision blurred into darkness, and she collapsed helplessly to the floor, losing consciousness.

Emi
Ugh, my head is killing me!
Did I fall asleep in that back room? How did I end up back in my office? It’s already so bright out—what time is it?
A splitting headache was compounded by an annoying ringing sound, which, judging by the melody, was coming from her phone. The first thing that caught her eye was the wall clock: 10:15. She had overslept. Damn it.
Emi
It's almost noon already!? My boss is going to kill me. Where is my phone???
She nervously patted her pockets, only to find them empty, and began frantically shuffling through the papers covering her desk. As she lifted one of the small stacks, her eyes widened in shock after a quick glance at the contents.
Emi
…What. No… this has to be a joke. What are the Ecliptic doing here?
Emi
WHAT THE HELL?!
What is THIS doing on my desk?? I don't remember picking them up from the back room…
Emi looks at the papers with a slightly tense expression when her long-lost phone finally starts ringing, displaying a reminder on the screen: “Pick up Norita Akabane at the airport”

Squinting in confusion, she taps the screen to open the full reminder and checks the date—01/12/2052. Almost 2 years ago, the very day she brought Norita Akabane to the agency to sign his contract as one of the members of Ecliptic.
Emi
Is this… some kind of joke? Did I really lose my mind just from one look at that miserable album?
Alright, turn off the hidden cameras, this isn't funny anymore!
...
No, no, no, maybe it's just a silly dream?!
The woman pinches her arm hard, squeezing her eyes shut in pain and feeling a flicker of horror.
Emi
It feels a little too real for a dream… Haha… Could there be another Norita Akabane in this world?
The phone on the table rang again, and the girl glanced at the screen with hesitation; she knew the caller all too well.
Emi
Director?
Director
Futami-san, you're on your way to pick up Norita Akabane from the airport, right? Don't forget, he's a pretty important person. Treat him well so everything goes smoothly. Having him on board will definitely be a huge boost for your new group~
Emi
...
Emi
A huge boost, huh?
Director
Futami-san, are you listening?
Emi
Oh, absolutely! Don't worry about it, I'll take care of everything.
Director
Great, let me know how it goes.
Emi
Of course.
...
Emi
Is this actually for a biopic? No one told me anything about this; I would have known if something like that was in the works...
But I couldn't just up and travel back in time, could I?! That only happens in cheesy seasonal manga! Or could it?... My life over the last couple of months has certainly felt like a bad manga with a terrible ending.
I mean, I’ve seen tons of shows with a plot like that, but is that even actually possible?
My head is about to explode…
As the dial tone began to sound and her thoughts finally started to settle, she suddenly remembered something important: she was already running late. She had to grab her bag and keys from the desk on the fly as she dashed out of the office.
